synchronization/ deleting of files and folder on different locations

I moved files/ folder from location/ hub A. But the copies from moved files/ folder stay on the hub B. Is it correct behavior of Hubzilla? Hubzilla version on both hubs A and B is 2.8.1.

This seems to be dependent on exactly *how* the files were removed. It works correctly using DAV but failed to sync properly if deleted using the web browser interface.

Should be fixed upstream.

I browsed the thread start.hubzilla.org erroneously as open hub declared from 19.11.2017 with one Raspberry PI. Can you find one bug here?

Is it a bug or feature, that hubzilla use time of client device in hubzilla timestamps? In my opnion, is it a bug. Please Vote: Bug - yes or no?

In my opinion it is useful for time-Tags in those events as sent time of message in ZOT-Netzwerk use the UTC https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UTC .

What is in your channel settings? (Settings => Channel Settings => Time Zone) You can pick UTC (Other) or any other time zone of your choice.

My channel settings was Timezone: Berlin. I tryed with Timezone: UTC - produced no improvement, no changes for displayed timestamp.

pubsites has a column for register policy and this is being displayed correctly. Pubsites has no awareness of invitations. That isn't a bug. It is not implemented. This would require extending the zot protocol to exchange and store invitation information and then transmit and display it in directory transactions. That's a whole lot of work for the one or two sites that have ever used invitations.

It shouldn't be a big deal for Hubzilla ⟩⟩ Start because the first thing visitors to the site encounter past the "splash" page is a message with the instructions at the bottom, which basically forces them to read the information before registering:

... Registration requires an invitation code, which you can request from either from an existing hub member or from the admin directly. Please email admin@start.hubzilla.org with your name and your request for an invitation code.

At the moment I'm not sure. I don't think so. Looking through the code shows that there is support for member-generated invitations, limited by some number set in the service classes, but this does not appear to be fully implemented. Or maybe I'm just not connecting the dots properly.

Until I figure out how to give members the ability to generate invitation codes, they'll just have to ask me for them. If they like, hub members can ask me for some in advance so that they can then give them to their acquaintances, or a newcomer can ask an existing hub member for one, and then that hub member can ask me. I don't think the wording is so misleading.

I see protected content in webpage WPB

@Mike M. closed the issue https://github.com/redmatrix/hubzilla/issues/909 , but I mean, that is one bug, that Hubzilla display protected content in webpage WPB for visitor with Token TCA, that is legal for channel A. Because I created one token for access to channel A, not to channel B.

Sorry but no.

If you allow "anybody authenticated" to access a data item, you can't pick and choose how they authenticate. B's content is visilbe to anybody on Hubzilla that does remote auth, as well as anybody who logs into the site with openid, as well as anybody who authenticates with a token. If you want control of who can see your content, "anybody authenticated" is a poor choice. You really want "visible to specific connections", where B can choose *only* B's access token holders and block A's access tokens.

Privacy is hard. If you want to do it right, you'll use access control lists as Hubzilla was designed and stop trying to get tricky with observer tags. Observer tags have their purpose but access control is not it. Observer tags are designed for creating identity-aware content; which is an entirely different kettle of fish than access control.

@neue medienordnung plus the observer tag has nothing to do with permissions or protection as you call it.

observer=1 content will be visible to any authenticated channel and/or guest token allowed to see the content (in terms of is allowed to view your webpage from the acl).

observer=0 content will be visible to any not authenticated viewer.

observer=0/1 basically only works with public content since we need to be authenticated to see restricted content. So any channel viewing restricted content will always see the content of observer=1.

That ability does not currently exist. I believe you asked for this as a feature request a while back, but realistically we can't implement it because bbcode is not and cannot ever be used as an access control mechanism. All somebody has to do is "view source" and they can see whatever it is you're trying to hide.

Hubzilla does not provide any access control at the paragraph level. It does provide some bbcode options to tailor paragraphs to the audience but these are not access control and were not designed with security in mind. They are more of a "parlour trick" or "novelty" than a privacy mechanism.

The channel permission limits provide access control at the resource level (who can see *any* of my webpages), and ACLs can restrict individual items (who can see *this* webpage). By adjusting these, one can implement most privacy mechanisms that are available to large centralised providers, but using a decentralised network. To my knowledge, no other decentralised web project provides this ability, though there is a crude and limited prototype of this ability in Friendica; which I wrote at an earlier stage in my life.

Well, if I'm logged in I see the Loremipsum stuff and my name in the text. If I'm logged out I can only see the headline but not the content. If I put the '&zat=topsecret' at the end of the URL I can see the content but instead of my name it shows "Dear Guest/LieberGast".
Looks reasonable to me.

I allowed visibility for ImA for token TImA
but image ImA is not visible for token TImA
image ImA be visible for token TImA, if I upload/include image ImA after change of ACL for image ImA

Is this beahavior a bug or a feature? I anticipate, that image ImA be visible for token TImA without new upload image ImA after allowing visibility for ImA for token TImA.

I will have to get back to you on this, but I think there is some confusion between ZAT and observer.

observer can only tell if you are logged in or not, it does not really care about who you are.

ZAT does know who you are.

In other words, it makes sense to only use one of them.

Suppose you have a public web page of type BBcode with ImageA and ImageB. ImageA is visible to everyone on the Internet, since the page is public. However, using the BBCode observer-tag, you can hide ImageB from the Internet.
Case closed.

Now, suppose you now want to hide the public page, and only allow those who have a ZAT-link to it to view it.
Then you need to create a new ZAT - e.g. OnlyYouAreWelcome, change the permission of the public page so View is only allowed for OnlyYouAreWelcome.

People with the ZAT-link can now view the protected page, if your webpages are generally visible, else you need to change this to at least "Anybody authenticated" if not "Anybody on the Internet" in your privacy settings.

The people who view the protected page are authenticated, i.e. they are an observer=1 and will be able to view both ImageA and ImageB. If you want this to be reversed, you need to switch observer from 1 to 0, i.e. you are hiding something from someone who is authenticated, which may be sensible if the text or image is of a general nature and you want to get it out of the way.

Right, you need two folders, one for restricted files and one for public files.

ImageB must be under a restricted folder in Files, e.g. Restricted Files, while ImageA is in a public folder in Files, e.g Public Files.

Add the ZAT for OnlyYouAreWelcome to Restricted Files.

Add the ZAT-link to ImageB to the webpage.

I may have got this wrong.

I changed my primary hub from hub.freecommunication.org to hub.libranet.de. I'm loggedin and post my messages from hub.libranet.de hub. But I receive in my mailclient notifications emails with links to hub.freecommunication.org. How can I achieve, that notifications emails links to hub.libranet.de?

I can confirm this behaviour and started investigating for a possible bug report yesterday. But I had one Idea left which I have just ckecked and it might be the culprit.

I once had a hub with another URL (play.clkr.link)and name (hubzilla playground)
did a move to this new hub with new name and url
double-checked yesterday whether I might have forgotten to deactivate the clone, no, as of now this is my only hub for this account

Posible solution (tbc):
There is a plugin "Mailhost" which lets you chose several clones which host to use for mail notifications etc if you have several clones on several hubs. I have just enabled that addon and after that I found in my account settings that old hub enabled: play.clkr.link.
I will turn that off now, expect to see some change and will report back. But do have a look, quite likely you will have set the same configuration at some point.

OK, es scheint zu funktionieren. habe gerade eine EMail erhalten mit einer Verbindungsanfrage. https://kukka.uber.space/channel/testpublic. An die nun korrekte Channel-Adresse. Sieht erstmal gut aus.
Auch wenn ich keine visuelle Notification im Hub dafür sehe und der Channel offenbar schon wieder nicht mehr exisitiert. :) Ich geh mal von Tests aus.

The problem is that you will receive notifications from each hub where you have a clone. They all send correct urls. These will be duplicates, with the links in each case pointing to the hub that sent you the email. The mailhost plugin solves this by only sending notifications from one hub. In order for it to work correctly, it will need to be installed on every hub where you have a clone.

You might actually try to work out what valies you need to modify inside the database. But if you cannot install the plugin you will most likwly not have access to the DB. And you could easily break your identity/hub.

In my case the old clone was the mailhost. That hub and domain disappeared completely. On the new hub I marked the new clone as main instance. After I found that leftover mailhost configuration mails are not only arriving in a much more timely manner but also naming the correct hub / domain.

@neue medienordnung plus Nachdem ich das Mailhost-Addon installiert hatte, fand ich die übriggebliebene Mailhost-Konfiguration in meinem Account. Seitdem ich diese Konfiguration gelöscht habe, treffen auch die Notification-EMails zeitnah ein (vorher zT mit einigen Stunden Verzögerung) und benennen jetzt auch den korrekten Hub mit der korrekten Domain.

I cloned. I do not remember when exactly I changed my primary hub setting. Then I deactivated the old hub, i.e. the domain no longervconnected before it was later deleted.

Ich nehme an, dass mehr Transparenz - und das meine ich wörtlich - bei der Entwicklung von neuen Hubzilla-Features und bei den Änderungen in der grafischen Oberfläche dem Hubzilla-Projekt gut tun würden.

Ein Paar Hintergrundinfos: Bei mir haben die Benachrichtigungen (Notifications) einwandfrei funktioniert, solange ich bis vor wenigen Tagen mit Hubzilla Version 2.0.6 unterwegs war. Dann bekam ich einen Tipp, dass es sich lohnt, auf eine neuere Version umzusteigen, da die 2.0.6 Version Probleme bei der Kommunikation mit federierten Netzwerken hat, bspw. werden die Formatierungen falsch wiedergegeben.

Da ich einen Klon von meinem nmoplus-Account auf einem Hub mit der Version 2.8 hatte, dachte ich mir, dass es ein Klacks ist, die Version zu wechseln. Dem war es aber nicht so. Weil ich festgestellt habe, dass ich keine Benachrichtigungen auf dem Hub mit der Version 2.8 bekomme. Da ich angenommen habe, dass es nicht sein kann, dass so ein wichtiges Feature nicht funktioniert, habe ich keinen Fehlerbericht erfasst, sondern einfach über mein Problem meinen Hubmin informiert und dann nach Hilfe im @Hubzilla Support Forum+ , @Deutschsprachige Nutzer+ und im @Hubzilla Development Forum gesucht. Da auf diesen Kanälen Funkstille war, habe ich dann doch einen Bugreport erstellt , wo dann Mike M. freundlicherweise nach einer Viertelstunde mich aufgeklärt hat, wo ich jetzt nach den Notifications suchen muss.

Ich wurde gezwungen eine Menge Zeit in die Suche nach der Fehlerursache zu investieren, ich wurde gezwungen ziemlich ausführliche Fehlerberichte zu verfassen:

nur um in Erfahrung zu bringen, dass seit der Version 2.8 das Layout für de Benachrichtigungen sich geändert hat.

Obwohl die Entwickler im Kernteam scheinbar davon ausgehen, dass diese Layoutänderung angekündigt und mit der Community abgestimmt wurde - s. Kommentar von @Mario Vavti im Thread, habe ich persönlich bis jetzt immer noch keine Möglichkeit, in Erfahrung zu bringen, was denn und wann zu der Menüführung/ Notifications angekündigt wurde.

Also wenn auch zukünftig die Veröffentlichung von neuen Versionen durch derart Intransparenz gekennzeichnet wird, dann kann man ziemlich zuverlässig prognostizieren, dass die Begeisterung für Hubzilla sich in Grenzen halten wird. Genauso, dass die Anzahl der neuen Hubzilla Nutzer eher sinken statt wachsen wird. Ziemlich plakativ haben wir es diese Tage mit dem kurzen Ausflug von Holger in das Hubiversum gesehen. Und übrigens es war die Diskussion, die Holger angestossen hat, wo dann @Mario Vavti mich darauf aufmerksam machte, dass die Nachrichten aus der Hubzilla Version 2.0.6 in Diaspora und Friendica nicht so toll ankommen.

Es ist mir schade um die Zeit, die ich in diese Notifications-recherche investiert habe und die ich wirklich wie jeder von uns gar nicht im Überfluss habe. Es ist schade und aus meiner Sicht ziemlich kontraproduktiv, wenn die Zeit von @Mike Macgirvin auf die Beantwortung von Anfragen, Bearbeitung von Bugreports, die man sich wirklich sparen könnte, verbraten wird.

Ein Schritt, um für mehr Transparenz zu sorgen, wäre aus meiner Sicht zu klären, warum die von @Mario Vavti erwähnte Ankündigung für mich nicht sichtbar ist. Keine Ahnung - bin nur ich davon betroffen? Auch in diesem Fall bin ich daran interessiert, warum dies so ist. Ich habe dazu einen Bugreport erstellt.

Ich verfolge dieses Projekt mit Begeisterung seit Anfang der Fiendica-Entwicklung, so wie viele andere unter uns. Die Hubzilla Kern-Entwickler wie @Mario Vavti machen hier extrem gute Arbeit und müssen sich nicht rechtfertigen oder etwas nachweisen. Manchmal reichen kurze Dienstwege, wie kleine Absprachen zwischen Kern-Entwicklern, um das Projekt weiter zu bringen.

Transparenz hin oder her, nicht jede Änderung oder Neuerung muss in einem Forum ausdiskutiert werden. Das hatten wir früher oft probiert, mit ca. so einem Ergebnis: 8 dafür, 7 dagegen, 4 unentschlossen. Ist das repräsentativ für alle Hubzilla Nutzer? Was kann man damit anfangen?

Wir sollten sehr dankbar sein, dass wir Leute wie Mike, Mario, Andrew und einige andere hier bei uns haben.
Vorschläge finde ich gut, Kritik aber unangemessen.

ich bin auch dankbar dafür, was hier das Kernteam leistet. Wenn in meinen Ausführungen oben irgendwas als Kritik angekommen ist, dann ist es nicht meine Absicht gewesen. Ich bin einfach der Meinung, dass die Wahrscheinlichkeit sich erhöht, dass mehr Leute auf die tolle Hubzilla-Möglichkeiten und auch auf die neue Features aufmerksam werden und evtl. sich für Hubzilla entscheiden, wenn diese Möglichkeiten und Features auch allgemeinverständlich genannt und kommuniziert werden.

Ich habe mal in einem Journalisten-Crashkurs wahrgenommen, dass die Redaktionen, Bloganbieter es mögen, wenn Sie auf wiederkehrende Nachrichten für ihre Medien zurückgreifen können. Das Hubzilla-Projekt als ganzes würde doch nur profitieren, wenn die Updates routinemäßig zum Anlass genommen werden, um einen mundgerechten Text für die Außenstehenden zu verfassen. So einen Text müssen nicht unbedingt die Kernentwickler selbst schreiben. Scheinbar gibt es genug Leute, die im Bilde sind, was im #HubzillaProjekt geschieht. Ich kann so einen Text/ Nachrichten in einschlägigen Communities teilen, wietergeben. Ich habe am Do diese Woche ein knapp 1,5 stündiges Interview zu Hubzilla gegeben. Hier https://ecos.publishwith.me/13 kann man nachschlagen, was potenzielle Hubzilla-Nutzer so interessiert.

Insgesamt und bei diesem Interview auch vermisse ich die https://hubchart-tarine.rhcloud.com/ Übersichtsseite. Keine Frage, auch dort würde man heute kaum mehr für die Registrierung offene Hubs finden, aber das Layout von hubchart-tarine.rhcloud.com ist m.E. viel ansprechender gewesen und die Angaben zu offenen Hubs stimmten meines Wissens auch. Die Leute, die Hubzilla nicht kennen, aber die sich dafür interessieren, wollen einfach erst testen, wie sich Hubzilla anfühlt, bevor sie sich entscheiden evtl. mit eigens administrierten Hub loslegen.

@neue medienordnung plus Ich wäre dafür, die Hauptentwickler wie @Mario Vavti nicht mit Formalien überzustrapazieren. Sie beantworten Fragen wirklich sehr bereitwillig, wenn irgend etwas brennt.

Am besten, Du schaust mal selbst ins Git. am einfachsten auf der Webseite. Dort siehst Du alle Commits. Da steht immer eine kleine Erklärung dran. Geht man dann auf die Änderung direkt in den Dateien, findet man oft viel mehr. So solltest du als Hub-Admin vorgehen. Mache auch eher selten.

Ansonsten wäre es am besten, sich an den Hub-Admin zu wenden.

@neue medienordnung plus Glaub mir, insbesondere @Mario Vavti und @Mike Macgirvin machen einen EXTREM gute Job. Gerade die beiden in Diskussionen mit normalen Benutzern zu verstricken, fände ich ungünstig.

Meinst du damit mein Versuch, zu klären, warum ich nicht mitbekommen habe, dass das Layout für Benachrichtigungen sich geändert hat?

Ich weiss, dass es eine Gratwanderung ist - habe ich als Nutzer hier mit einem Programm-/Systemfehler zu tun oder ist es mein Bedienfehler? Deswegen habe ich alles versucht, bevor ich einen Bugreport erstellt habe - s. Hintergrundinfos im Startbeitrag - ich habe Hilfe im Support- und im Dev-Forum gefragt, ich habe meinen Hubmin angeschrieben - und ich habe keinen Erfolg gehabt. Übrigens es war doch eine ausdrückliche Empfehlung von Mario, einen Bugreport zu machen.

Versuche mal in meine Lage zu versetzen - Hubzilla-Channel - Dreh- und Angelpunkt meiner Kommunikation: Ich wechsle von einer älteren auf die neuere Hubzilla-Version - und die Benachrichtigungen gehen nicht. Also ist der Kanal so gut wie tot. Hunzu kommt, dass im Hubzilla Support Forum und Deutschsprachige Nutzer sich niemand meldet. Meinem Hubmin kan ich auch nichts ankreiden - ich bin ihm allein dafür dankbar, dass er meine Channels hostet. Was würdest du in so einer Situation unternehmen? Vorausgesetzt du bist kein Hardcore-Linuxuser.

Keine Kritik, sondern eine Meinung:
Wenn die Lösungen für die Wiederherstellung einer elemantaren Sichtbarkeit von Teilnehmern, mit den ich connected bin, so

Niemand zwingt hier jemandem zu irgendwas - wenn die Kernentwickler keine Zeit oder Lust haben, Fragen zu beantworten, ist es OK. Aber das, was du g'rade versuchst hier einzuführen, fühlt sich für mich als eine Art Zensur an. Und wir sind doch bei Hubzilla gelandet, um ohne Zensur zu kommunizieren zu können - oder

@Mario Vavti im nachhinein, als Mike M. mich aufgeklärt hat, dass das Layout ab der Version 2.8 sich geändert hat, habe ich auch mir die Changelog angeschaut. Aber auf diese Idee muss man erst kommen. Ich habe gesehen, dass auf meinem alten Hub mit der Version 2.0.6 die Benachrichtigungen ankommen und habe angenommen, dass die "fehlende" Benachrichtigungen auf dem 2.8 Hub damit zusammenhängen, dass ich den primären Hub geändert habe und dabei irgendwas nicht funktioniert hat. Eine unglückliche Überlappung von Ereignissen :-|.

@Beni Grind Rückblickend ist man immer schlauer. Ich habe auch was dazu gelernt. Vlt. hätte ich weniger gelernt, wenn jemand mich ganz am Anfang, als ich nach Hilfe gerufen habe, aufgeklärt hätte

Ist das nicht das übliche Vorgehen?

Wie ich mehrfach wiederholt habe: ich habe meiner Nomadic Identity einen anderen primary Hub zugewiesen. Version Althub 2.0.6, Neuhub 2.8. Als ich festgestellt habe, dass ich auf dem neuen Hub keine Benachrichtigungen sehe, habe ich versucht die Ursache zu klären, den Fehler zu lokalisieren. Die Hypothese war - irgendwas hat beim Umzug nicht geklappt. Und ich habe versucht, was denn nicht geklappt hat. Die Hypothese war falsch. Das weiss ich aber erst jetzt. Genauso, dass ich erst jetzt weiss, dass es eine unglücliche Konstellation war - mein Umzug mit dem Primary Hubs und die Änderung des Notifications-Layouts in der neuen Hubzilla-Version.

Es tut mir leid, dass ich die Diskussion dazu nicht präzise gelesen habe. Meine Antwort auf eine solche Vermutung:

wäre eigentlich immer: "Hast du im Changelog nachgelsen, ob etwas auf dein Problem hinweist." Dort wäre das Problem dann vermutlich sofort aufgefallen.

Ich persönlich habe mir angewöhnt, Lösungen zu Problemen immer zuerst im Changelog und in den git-Commits (wie weiter oben erwähnt) zu suchen. Das hat mir schon einige Forum-Posts und lange Recherchen erspart.

Nur als Hinweis, weil es dich evt aich interessieren könnte. Es gibt einen sehr coolen Service, bei dem alle Git- Meldungen sogar in einen Chan gepustet werden. Ich hab auch nicht immer den Kopf freu dafür, finde es aber schon allein als News-Rauschen sehr interessant und easy, um zu sehen, was abgeht.

Its not clear where to upload the files, and impossible to know the permissions to use since the ACL is private known only to the post owner. You can use zmg and img bbcode tags to embed images that are public or that you think the post viewers can access.

@Raymond Monret This came up last week. You're on 2.8 and I'm using encrypted OWA tokens which your site doesn't yet know about. We will probably need a point release to make this work, as I'm not going to provide a backward compatibility hack to send unencrypted tokens for hopefully understandable reasons.

Ah, I didn't notice that the post was public. Now it makes sense that the attachment button can be there, because it is not private information that the ACL is public. In a post that is not public, the attachment button does not appear.

Whenever I need to add an image via comment I upload it using the normal post form, then c&p that generated URL into the comment. This is also what I did right now within this thread.

For me too.

If you don't see an attach button, it is because your permissions are configured in a way that your photos are not visible to the general public by default. This is OK, it is not a bug, but in order for your photos in comments to be seen by everybody in the conversation, we have to make them public. We don't do this if your photos are normally private or hidden, because it would be inconsistent with your privacy expectations.

Das ist etwas, das ich sehr vermisse. Ich habe einfach kein Gefühl dafür was wo sichtbar ist. Ich bin auch der Meinung, dass das viel transparenter gelöst werden sollte. Bei vielen Einstellungen hat man ja auch gar nicht die Möglichkeit zu prüfen, ob sie das machen, was man beabsichtigt, so dass man permanent mit der Unsicherheit lebt, dass andere u.U. den jeweiligen Post nicht sehen bzw. darauf antworten können.

Für die Überprüfung "Sehen unangemeldete User ein Post?"- habe ich ständig eine Browser-Instanz "Hubzilla nicht angemeldet" am Laufen, wo ich bei relevanten Inhalten die URL des fraglichen Posts/ Webseite/ ... öffne. In anderen Szenarien prüfe ich dann mit einem angemeldeten Profil B, ob angemeldeter B-User die Posts von A-User sieht. Hast du noch Anwendungsfälle, die mit diesen zwei Testszenarios nicht abgedeckt sind?

That is the screenshot, part of @Andrew Manning 's post. That is why I said above the image: "This is the screenshot".
But I wanted that part in because it shows that the screenshot taken live from this very thread.
And I do not have an attach button, as others appear to have. Hubzilla: latest dev.

Ich habe damit nur getestet, inwieweit Hubzilla smartphonetauglich ist, weil ich danach gefragt wurde. Ich habe aber festgestellt, dass der Smartphone die Anzeige aller von mir getesteten Hubs mit https:// verweigert hat - s. Hubzilla on mobile devices . Nur auf meinem Spielhub mit der Version 2.4RC ohne https:// konnte ich halbwegs die Hubzilla Usability testen.

Ich finde es ärgerlich, dass die Hersteller immer neue Hardware auf den Markt bringen, statt die Software für den neuen Kontext, bspw. für SNI-Unterstützung anzupassen.

Gibt es Chance, für die Version 2.3.3 irgendeinen Browser mit SNI-Unterstützung aufzutreiben? Oder ist die SNI-Unterstützung im Betriebssystem selbst implementiert?
